We are delighted that you have chosen Bordesley Green East Nursery School for your child's early years provision, we have a dedicated team of teaching staff & early years support staff ready to welcome your children into nursery & begin their early years' learning journey with us.

Below you can see an example of our learning areas that your children will have the opportunity to access during their time here with us, there are seperate classrooms for the 2-3 year olds - Explorers & our older 3 - 4 year old group, three indoor teaching areas in total.

Additional to that we have our 3 outdoor environments urban, physical & adventure, giving your child a wide range of learning experiences & opportunities.

Starting Nursery

Once you have been offered a nursery place, we will then arrange to come & visit you & your child at home prior to their start date (this may change due to COVID restrictions) this will give you an opportunity to meet with staff, share any information regarding your child & receive the nursery pack (contact details/ medical information) please ensure that you have your child's red book available too, the pack must be completed & returned to staff on your child's first day.

Induction Day - This will be a one hour session with one parent or carer to meet with staff & familiarise yourselves with the setting, staff will then discuss with you the hours for the following days depending on how your child settles & their individual needs, increasing the session to their full entitlement, adults must wear a face covering whilst in nursery.

Attendance It is important for you to ensure that your child has good attendance in nursery, this has an impact on your child's development & wellbeing, try to avoid holidays in term time, any requests for absences must be made to David McCallin Head Teacher on our request form availalble in reception.

Curriculum

The curriculum embraces the best influences of international perspectives on outstanding Early Years practice, including Reggio Emilia, International Baccalaureate, Montessori and Early Years Foundation Stage. These form a structure for how our environments are laid out and the pedagogy behind how we work with children.

We create learning opportunities based on children's interests and thorough ongoing assessment of children by the children's key workers. We are enthusiastic about developing the whole child, focussing on  both children's academic potential and their interpersonal and independence skills to enable them to flourish in school and become valuable contributors to the community.

Strong relationships with parents and your child  inform how interests are developed and are supplemented by off site visits, visiting artists, animal handlers, local professionals from the community and parent workshops to encourage home learning opportunities.

Safeguarding

Accidents or incidents - You will be informed of any accidents/ incidents that your child may have in nursery that staff witness or your child informs staff of, please inform staff of any accidents or incidents that may be had at home too, as part of our safeguarding procedures we will discuss with you any concerns that your child shares with staff.

Mobile Phones

Try to avoid dummies & bottles as your child gets older, this can impact on speech & their teeth also , advice & support is available from nursery staff, please talk to us.
